The Spanish Journal of Gastroenterology (REED) is the official Journal of the Spanish Society of Gastroenterology (Sociedad Española de Patología Digestiva) (SEPD), Spanish Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (Sociedad Española de Endoscopia Digestiva) (SEED) and Spanish Association of Digestive Ultrasonography (Asociación Española de EcografÁa Digestiva) (AEED).

The journal firstly appeared in 1918. It was founded by professors R. Luis y Yagüe, Fidel Fernández and L. Urrutia. It has been publishing manuscripts monthly (12 numbers a year) without interruption since 1944 and it has been declared of public interest.

REED publishes high quality peer-reviewed papers related to original researches about clinical practice an research in the field of gastroenterology, hepatology, and related areas. REED also covers aspects of the technological goals in gastroenterology diseases, scholarly points of view about general practice, political and economical aspects affecting patient's care (biochemistry, internal medicine, oncology and digestive surgery).

REED has its own webpage since 2011, available http://www.reed.es/, which contains all the important information about the journal as well as other complementary and relevant scientific sources, such as Practice Guidelines.

The abbreviated title is Rev. esp. enferm. dig. and it should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, bibliographical references and strips.
