The journal publishes 6 regular issues per year (one every two months) and one or two supplements.

Its main aim is to publish articles on basic or clinical research relating to nephrology, arterial hypertension, dialysis and kidney transplants. It is governed by the peer review system and all original papers are subject to internal assessment and external reviews.

The journal Nefrología (Madrid) is distributed exclusively among medical professionals.

Its abbreviated title is Nefrología (Madr.), which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, bibliographical references and strips.
