Abstract

POLO USAOLA, Cristina  and  OLIVARES ZARCO, Daniel. Considerations about an approach to depathologization of the transsexualism. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2011, vol.31, n.2, pp.285-302. ISSN 2340-2733.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S0211-57352011000200008.

In this paper concepts and theories related to gender identity are reviewed. We subsequently discuss different approaches to treatment and conception of what's known as Gender Indentity Disorders. Some experts, professionals and transgender associations agree in considering transsexualism as a mental disorder. Others consider it a Sex Differentiation Disorder, while others demand depathologization of the foretold Gender Identity Disorder.

Keywords : Gender Identity; Transsexualism; Transgender; depathologization.
