Abstract

VILLASANTE, Olga. Guía para auxiliares psiquiátricos (1967) by Fernando Claramunt: A psycho-social perspective for mental health care. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2021, vol.41, n.140, pp.277-301.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 2340-2733.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s0211-57352021000200014.

The First regulations to organize nurses and attendants in psychiatric institutions began in 1931, but Spanish Civil War interrupted the training courses and specialization. Despite some exceptions, there was no official training plan until the establishment of the National Psychiatric Assistance Board (PANAP), in 1955. PANAP created a network of assistance devices, set up informative and educational activities, including asylum workers training. Fernando Claramunt López, director of the Provincial Services of Psychiatry and Mental Hygiene, published Guía para auxiliares psiquiátricos in 1967.

This paper analyzes Claramunt´s book, re-edited in 1972. The objetive of this monograph was to homogenize training among asylum workers of psychiatric institutions. Claramunt took into account the WHO recommendations. One of the most original aspects of this book is the introduction of terminology such as psychoanalytic psychotherapy, behavior psychology or social psychiatry.
