Abstract

Injuries resulting from road traffic accidents are a major public health problem whose approach has varied in recent years thanks to a scientific approach that has made it possible to address them also from the perspective of prevention. Motor vehicle crash injury data from National Traffic Directorate contributes to studying the phenomenon from the epidemiological point of view. The numbers of dead and injured presented a progressive decrease in recent years that we are situated in 7th place in terms of deaths in the European Union. The most common injuries are fractures, prevailed in lower limbs. The index of severity MAIS 3 indicates that more elderly people are those who have higher percentage of serious injury. The annual cost of injuries is around 1% of GDP. The centers of recognition of drivers (CRC) as such began to operate in 1982 in order to assess the physical skills of drivers. They are health centres whose latest normative regulation date from 2010, based for the valuation drivers psychophysics in annex IV of the General Regulation of Drivers. Apart from a basic protocol applicable to all drivers there is a specific protocol for rating certain alterations, risk factors or aimed at professional drivers. This model suffers from certain shortcomings which required a revision that allows greater efficiency in the detection and control of the driver of risk involving to advance the process of collaboration between the CRC and all stakeholders to improve the transfer of information.
