Abstract
GARCIA BANON, Ana Mª; SAINZ OTERO, Ana and BOTELLA RODRIGUEZ, Manuel. Nursing and sex discrimination: considerations on gender. Index Enferm [online]. 2004, vol.13, n.46, pp.45-48. ISSN 1699-5988.
Being mainly a women's activity, nursing has been influenced by gender considerations from its very beginning. This circumstance has conditioned its evolution and development and has made this profession not reach its expected goals. Nowadays, although sexist roles should have been overcome, we can observe that this profession is underestimated, and activities related to it have a devalued image in spite of their social importance. In this paper, we make a historical and methodological review of the reasons which have caused this situation and we propose some alternatives to improve it.
