NONDEDEU ARRAEZ, David. Changes in the oncohematologic patient's social role: a case study. Index Enferm [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.3, pp.165-168. ISSN 1699-5988. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1132-12962011000200006.
The usual treatment of oncohematological diseases consists of specific treatment chemotherapy and supportive care to prevent or mitigate the secondary effects. Within this supportive treatment includes pre-ventive measures resulting from bone marrow immunosuppression as dietary changes and isolation. In this case study we describe how these therapeutic and support measures affect in the social role of a patient suffering from acute myeloid leukemia. Qualitative data from the patient were obtained through a semistructured interview, transcribed to paper and analyzed and grouped according to family size, employment, social and emotional development. The results indicate a break and a change in the patient's social role and a change in emotional status.
