KUERTEN ROCHA, Patrícia et al. Technology and caring in intensive care units. Index Enferm [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.3, pp.156-160. ISSN 1699-5988.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1132-12962013000200009.

To understand the current context of care and the art of caring in a technological world as the Intensive Care Units (ICU), we need to review and reflect on the different historical moments, understand the cultural and technological developments that relate to the new concepts on caring and technology within ICUs. With technological advancement and the ways to care, we believe that the care provided in ICUs should undergo major changes in the coming decades, impacting the management and nursing care and health. It is necessary that Nursing develops hard light and light technologies, so that we may keep the quality on caring, the security of the patient and optimize caring. Thus, we must recognize our commitment as professionals and make technology as a mean and not an end, for the purpose of care is to meet the needs of human beings.
