Abstract

During the last years, new pharmacological families have been introduced for postoperative pain management. One of these families, are the Gapapentoids (Gabapentin and Pregabalin), which has been used for more than a decade for chronic pain conditions, but because their profile, has been accepted in the perioperative period. This review intent to summarize their mechanisms of action and it relevance for postoperative acute pain management, and also the clinical experience with these agents and the actual concerns about it use.
