Abstract

Objectives:

To update the new fall prevention strategies in the elderly.

Method:

A review is carried out following the PRISMA method, taking into account studies conducted in the last 5 years, with full text, conducted in humans, written in English, Spanish or French and of high methodological quality measured with the CASPe method.

Results:

Among the strategies to prevent falls in the elderly, physical exercise, calcium supplements, vitamin D or proteins stand out; Strength programs, attention to pathologies, control of environmental risks, education for the elderly and staff, improve balance and vision, use of applications such as SocialBike.

Conclusions:

The promotion of all the strategies analyzed in health centers, hospitals, residences and day centers is essential. In addition, the number of studies in this area should also be increased to devise new useful, effective and safe strategies in this population group. With the aim of offering the elderly the best health care based on the latest available evidence.
