At present, the incorporation of new technologies in the health sciences field is a reality for which healthcare professionals must be prepared. The laser technology offers numerous advantages in almost all the dental specialties. Although its use has been studied in restorative dentistry and endodontics, of the wide range of lasers available, the CO2 laser stands out in the area of oral surgery, specially in soft tissue surgery. Its use is not free of risks, and the specialist in oral surgery has to possess the knowledge and pertinent skills for its utilization. The features of the CO2 laser allow for a quick and comfortable surgery for the professional and minimal postop inconveniences for the patient.
