Abstract
BARRIOPEDRO MORO, Maribel; MUNIESA, Carlos Alberto and LOPEZ DE SUBIJANA HERNANDEZ, Cristina. Gender Perspective at the Spanish Olympic Athletes' Employment. CPD [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.1, pp.339-350. ISSN 1989-5879.
Nowadays the elite sport demand is very high and it could imply less time for academic development of the athlete. This fact affects the latter employment opportunities. The aim of this study was to analyze the employment level among the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games athletes depending on the gender. Some key features identified in previous studies were also analyzed. A quantitative study based on surveys was done. The mail questionnaire was the data collecting tool. 117 ex-athletes (64 male and 53 female) answered the questionnaire. Results have shown that the Olympic Athletes from Barcelona 1992 achieved higher level of academic and employment career than the general population. The gender differences at the salary found follow the general population pattern, thus the sport career should not be related with that difference.
