Abstract

DOMINGUEZ-GONZALEZ, F; MORAL-CAMPILLO, L; REIGAL, RE  and  HERNANDEZ-MENDO, A. Physical fitness and selective attention in a preadolescent sample. CPD [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.2, pp.33-42.  Epub Sep 25, 2023. ISSN 1989-5879.

The objective of this study was to analyze the relationships between physical fitness and selective attention in a group of preadolescents. Participants were 85 children (n = 44) and girls (n = 41) aged between 10 and 12 years. The d2 test was used to analyze the attentional processes. The physical condition was evaluated through the abdominal test, the horizontal jump test, the 5x10 meter speed test and the Course Navette test. Analyses indicated positive relationships between explosive strength in legs and maximum oxygen consumption with some parameters of the d2 test, and that oxygen consumption was the main predictor of selective attention and concentration. The obtained results support the importance of physical fitness in the cognitive functioning of children and adolescents.

Keywords : physical fitness; selective attention; preadolescence.
