Abstract

COSTA, IP; RODRIGUES, MP; LOPEZ-GIL, JF  and  CAVICHIOLLI, FR. Brazilian athletics: a qualitative anlysis of the environment for the development of sports talent. CPD [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.3, pp.110-125.  Epub May 23, 2022. ISSN 1989-5879.

The environment for the development of talent is composed of psychological, social and physiological aspects, beyond the physical and material conditions that influence such development, inside and outside the world of sport. This study verified whether context of Brazilian athletics can be a propelling or inhibiting element in the development of athletes. 19 athletes and five managers, of five teams among the 35 best classified in the competitions held in 2015, 2016 and 2017 were interviewed. The interview model was based in the Talent Development Environment Questionnaire, created by Martindale. The analysis model was based on Bronfenbrenner's bioecological theory. The theories used consider the talent environment in a generalized way. It is concluded that the development environment impacts sports performance and the progression that the athlete will have in his career and the main differences are in the contexts of physical and human structures.
