Abstract
SYLDOR, Marc Henry; GONZALEZ MARTINEZ, Félix and URENA RENGEL, Erick. Pneumoperitoneum?. Rev Clin Med Fam [online]. 2010, vol.3, n.2, pp.141-142. ISSN 2386-8201.
The interposition of the bowel between the liver and diaphragm, known as Chilaiditi's sign, is usually found by chance during a radiological examination for another reason, as it is often asymptomatic. When this finding is accompanied by clinical symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or constipation it is known as Chilaiditi's syndrome. This syndrome is rare and generally responds favourably to conservative treatment. We consider it of maximum interest to be aware of this syndrome given its wide range clinical signs and symptoms that could mimic other conditions, especially pneumopertoneum due perforated hollow viscera. In such cases, a simple X-ray of the chest or abdomen could be sufficient to recognise this condition. We present the case of a 50 year old man who had acute, severe epigastric pain, with suspicion of surgical abdomen. A definite diagnosis was made possible through imaging tests X-ray and CAT scan).
