Abstract

In the development of Burnout Syndrome in nursing professionals, the characteristics of health organizations play an important role. Recently, new concepts such as structural and psychological empowerment have been introduced as protective factors against professional burnout, although the results of these works offer heterogeneous results.

Objective:

Make a narrative bibliographical review on the interaction between Burnout's Syndrome and Professional Empowerment considering scientific literature (2010-2020) published in the main databases of Health Sciences.

Results:

There are 29 publications included in the review. Both types of empowerment are inversely related to Burnout Syndrome, taking into consideration personal and organizational variables. Emotional exhaustion and Depersonalization are associated with a perception of low Resources and Support. Personal Accomplishment at work is influenced by perception of Meaning and Competence Increasement of Organizational Empowerment can contribute to reducing Burnout levels among nursing professionals.
