Abstract

Introduction. Currently the society demands of the universities the formation of integral professionals with knowledge, skills and moral values that meet the needs of the modern world. Universities and teachers are challenged to respond to these requests and should take over the task. Subjects and methods. To quantify the valuation made by clinical faculty of dentistry at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile on the value formation of dentist and measure the appreciation with the role that corresponds to them, a descriptive quantitative research was conducted using a structured questionnaire. Within the survey four questions were included, containing statements intended to measure the attitude of the teachers facing the moral formation of the dentist, his role as a model and the inclusion of moral goals in their courses. To compare the valuation made by academics the Wilcoxon rank test was used. Results and conclusions. The results and statistical analyzes indicate that teachers strongly agree on the importance of value formation of the dentist, but do not feel they have an important role in this work, either as models or favoring the inclusion of moral goals in their courses.
