Abstract

ESPI-LOPEZ, Gemma Victoria et al. Obesity as a determining factor in low back pain: bibliographic review. Rev Asoc Esp Espec Med Trab [online]. 2019, vol.28, n.3, pp.217-228.  Epub Jan 13, 2020. ISSN 3020-1160.

Introduction:

low back pain (LBP) affects a large part of the population and it is, together with cervical pain, the main cause of disability. Obesity is an important risk factor, since it involves a high mechanical load on the spine. The objective of this review is to know the relationship of obesity as a determining factor in people with LBP and the elements that may act as risk factors.

Methods:

articles published in the last 5 years in Pubmed and Cochrane databases have been consulted.

Results:

12 studies were included and analysed.

Conclusion:

all authors agree that there is a link between obesity and the appearance or increase of LBP, with the exception of one article. In addition, the interaction of other risk factors in LBP can be observed.

Keywords : low back pain; lumbago; obesity; overweight.
