Introduction:

Low back pain is one of the most frequently referred symptoms in medical consultation, being a limiting factor in activities of daily living and work activity. New therapies, such as cupping, seem to bring promising results in the management of low back pain.

Objective:

To evaluate the scientific evidence on the effects of the application of cupping therapy in patients with low back pain.

Material and Methods:

A literature search was carried out in PubMed, Medline, Cinhal, Scopus, Web of Science, PEDro and Cochrane with the terms “Cupping Therapy” and “Low Back Pain” and the keyword “Cupping Therapy”. Results: 10 articles using cupping therapy for the treatment of low back pain were included, focusing on pain and disability scales and obtaining significant beneficial results.

Conclusion:

Cupping therapy appears to reduce pain and disability in patients with low back pain.
