Resumen

NAVARRO BAYON, Daniel  y  CARRASCO RAMIREZ, Olga. The Relationship Between Psychotic Symptoms, Negative Emotions and Course of the Illness in Schizophrenia. Clínica y Salud [online]. 2009, vol.20, n.2, pp.197-204. ISSN 2174-0550.

There is evidence that depression, anxiety and self-esteem are related to the development and maintenance of positive symptoms of psychosis. However, the role of emotion in psychosis is unclear, especially in chronic patients. Method: Twenty patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, large illness duration, and persistent delusions and auditory hallucinations were assessed for psychosis (SAPS), depression (BDI), anxiety (STAI) and selfesteem (RSQ). This study examines the relationship between levels of depression, anxiety and self-esteem and psychotic symptoms, and the role of the course of the illness in relation to symptoms. Results: The correlation analysis replicates previous observations that there are associations between anxiety, depression and delusions. The relationship between psychotic symptoms and illness duration tends to decrease over the course of the illness. Conclusions: The relationship between negative emotions and psychotic symptoms acts through a complex pattern of associations which appears to be influenced by the course of the illness.

Palabras clave : psychotic symptoms; depression; anxiety; course of the illness.
