This is a qualitative study that have aim to reflect about the knowledge in nursing about SIDA. The collect data was the database of Theses and Dissertations of the Studies and Research in Nursing Center of the Brazilian Nursing Association. One hundred fifty studies were identified. The data analysis was carried out in two stages: first was the characterization of the abstracts performed, and after, the abstracts was organized from data in studies, giving space to the wide thematic categories: nursing care, educational practices, vertical transmission of HIV/SIDA, life experience with SIDA, employee health and epidemiological profile. It was verified that the nursing research provides a rapprochement between theory and practice, legalize to do and bring new care styles, ensuring the sustainability as an occupation and contributing effectively in the knowledge production.
