Resumen

ECHEVARRIA PEREZ, Paloma. Forms of integration, coordination mechanisms and conflicts arising from the introduction of complementary therapies in Spain. Index Enferm [online]. 2010, vol.19, n.2-3, pp.101-105. ISSN 1699-5988.

Medical pluralism and the introduction of complementary therapies are difficult because the prevailing biomedical model historically has tended to subordinate the remainder by the discrediting of other practices. Objectives: To describe the integration models of Complementary Therapies within the official sanitary system in Spain today. Moreover, to study its legitimacy and legal regulation. To analyze the conflicts and strategies on penetration, development and articulation of Complementary Therapies in Spain. Methodology: Qualitative methodology was used, 20 semi-structured interviews to healers, whether or not they are into the official sanitary; literature review and participant observation. Results: We analyzed the different forms of integration and mechanisms of coordination of CT in Spain and the derivative conflicts. Conclusions and perception about evolution: Healers are generally optimistic. But they do not think it in short term, because the resistance is still high.

Palabras clave : Complementary; Therapies; Integrative medicine; Spain.
