MACIAS-ESCALADA, Emilio; COBO-PLANA, Juan; CARLOS-VILLAFRANCA, Félix de y PARDO-LOPEZ, Berta. Orthodontic and surgical management of tooth impactions. RCOE [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.1, pp.69-82. ISSN 1138-123X.
During orthodontic-clinical practice, it is normal to find permanent teeth with different degrees of impaction. When a dental treatment is being decided, the range of orthodontic-surgical procedures must be considered in order to determine which is the one that adapts best to the clinical situation in each particular case. Management of the different types of impacted teeth is described as follows: classic fenestration or conventional gingival excision, fully repositioned buccal flap, fully repositioned palatal flap, apically repositioned buccal flap, buccal repositioning flap with apical repositioning and displacement, conductive alveolectomy, surgical repositioning and autotransplantation of teeth. Additionally, the indications, contraindications, advantages and disadvantages of each of these techniques are explained.
