Resumen

ALFARO CUENCA, Antonia et al. In line HDF in our patients: quality of life and functional capacity. Rev Soc Esp Enferm Nefrol [online]. 2006, vol.9, n.3, pp.06-11. ISSN 1139-1375.

In line haemodiafiltration (HDF) may contribute to a better purification of uremic toxins, to a better nutritional and anaemic state and to haemodynamic tolerance, and may help to improve the Quality of Life (QL) of patients under haemodialysis. In order to compare the quality of life and the functional capacity of patients under conventional haemodialysis (HD) versus HDF, an observational study was carried out on 11 patients who had previously been treated with HD and then were passed over to HDF for a year. The following were considered: their nutritional state, the intradialysis complications, morbidity and health-related quality of life measured with SF-36 Health Questionnaire and the Karnofsky Performance State (KPS). The dry weight, the interdialysis gain, and patients’ sensation of thirst was significantly lower with HDF, and the nutritional parameters improved. Likewise, with HDF the episodes of hypotension and the tension figures fell, the haemoglobin levels improved, and the days in hospital were reduced. As regards the QL, the patients passed from a mean score on the Karnofsky scale of 78 with HD to 85 with HDF, with an improvement too in the 8 dimensions of the state of health of the SF-36 questionnaire. Therefore, in the group of patients under study, HDF significantly improved their quality of life and functional capacity.

Palabras clave : haemodiafiltration; haemodialysis; quality of life.
