Breast ptosis is a disease frequently consulted to plastic surgeons and countless surgical options are available for its correction. Despite significant breakthroughs in the treatment of such disease, unexpected outcomes and complications, primarily when associated with breast implants, frequently occur. Wound dehiscence, implant exposure and breast shape alteration, particularly that of the lower breast pole, may be experienced by patients either at a short or long term following a mastopexy with breast implants. We present an overview of a newly-developed surgical technique based upon the use of an internal inferior dermo-glandular pedicle flap referred to as "hammock", aimed at ensuring the lower breast pole adequate support and protection. This flap allows for breast shape preservation over time including enhanced implant protection in the event of wound dehiscence.
