VERA VICUNA, Alexander  e  MEDINA MACIAS, Sonia M.ª. Análisis retrospectivo sobre la utilidad de las herramientas de valoración funcional, en las dolencias lumbares a nivel del ámbito laboral (Regional Canarias de Fremap, Año 2012). Med. segur. trab. [online]. 2014, vol.60, suppl.1, pp.254-263. ISSN 1989-7790.

Introduction: Lumbalgia, otherwise known as lower back pain is one of the syndromes which produce a big number of consultations in the National Health Service, constitute the most important cause of economic compensatory payment, either by public entities such as the Social Security or workplace insurance entities such as Mutuas. Objective: To determine the possible influence of applying the tools of functional assessment (Nedlumb / IBV 1.0) in monitoring processes of work for back pain in order to decrease the treatment time for lumbar ailments, as well as lowering costs of compensation payments for days off-work. Materials and methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out, to determ the total number of patients diagnosed with Lower Back Pain in the Canary Islands Regional FREMAP clinic in 2012, extrapolating the average time duration of our patients who are off-sick by that ailment Contingency Professional, with respect to the group II of the study by ASEPEYO in Sant Cugat in 2009, naming our study group, Group -II FREMAP (Low back pains without functional assessment), which was compared with the group I of that study (Lumbalgia practical assessment). The correlation between the both groups and if the result of the functional assessment, has had a prognostic value, over the remaining period of lower back pain, in terms of reduced time-off or the aforementioned economic costs. Result: After comparing our group, Group II- FREMAP, with Group I, as if it had made the functional assessment with Nedlumb / IBV 1.0 at 50 days time-off, the result showed a total reduction of 758.54 days off, which does not correlate with the daily cost savings of time-off compensation (36.3 € / day), showed that it could have achieved a saving of € 27,535 for CP in time-off for lumbar pathology in Canarias Regional in 2012. Furthermore, if the time-off would also have been applied as a common diseases, the savings would have increased, as was also demonstrated in the research that formed the basis for our study. Conclusion: In this study, we demonstrate a clear reduction of periods of time-off because of lower back-pain, it will perform the implementation of functional assessment within the protocols for lumbar pain and a long term off-work, which is considered to be greater than 50 days and in what could propose to make such functional assessment test, when there was no clinical data during the exploration, which would have justified implementations of additional test. The doctor must learn to use it in a adequate way within its diagnostic and therapeutic arsenal for a range of musculoskeletal diseases, and not only in order to find out patients who are exaggerating their symptoms.
