SANCHO RUBIO, María Cristina; GARIJO GALLEGO, Celia e VILLAR YUS, Carlos. Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy in patient with late AIDS diagnosis. Rev Clin Med Fam [online]. 2018, vol.11, n.3, pp.176-178. Epub 01-Out-2019. ISSN 2386-8201.
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy is a central nervous system demyelinating disease that causes diverse patterns of neurological involvement, and which has been described as a complication in HIV patients at very advanced stages. We present the case of a 52-year-old man, diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis and HIV, following tuberculostatic and antiretroviral treatment, who presents to the emergency department with instability and non-specific gait and speech disturbances after being recently discharged from the infectious disease service. The clinical and imaging tests suggest HIV-induced progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.
