MARIN CASTAN, María Luisa. On the meaning and scope of the most decisive milestones in the development of universal bioethics: The Oviedo Convention and the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights. Rev. Bioética y Derecho [online]. 2021, n.52, pp.155-172. Epub 25-Out-2021. ISSN 1886-5887. https://dx.doi.org/10.1344/rbd2021.52.34845.
The Oviedo Convention and the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights are the two legal instruments that have contributed the most to the development of universal Bioethics. These documents inscribe Bioethics in the context of international human rights. In both texts it has been possible to identify and configure a minimum and consensual set of bioethical principles that are rooted in human rights and the dignity of the person. Despite their different legal nature, with both documents a process of juridification of universal Bioethics begins, which widens and reorients the horizon and the contents of International Law.
