The objective of this paper is to critically analyze the concept of Mechanical Restraint by analyzing the current state of the literature and define this procedure as used in nursing practice. Mechanical restraint is a procedure used in the hospital for nursing professionals. In many mental health units or psycho geriatrics routinely performed with high prevalence. The analysis was performed with the technique of Wilson, described as the Avant for nurses and other health professionals. The result of this analysis is to identify conceptual essential elements of the mechanical containment concept which includes defining a therapy performed by nursing staff and guided by the physician which involves immobilizing a part or whole body of the patient against his will . We need to recognize the risks auto / hetero harmful preceding mechanical restraint and highlight the importance of unifying criteria and specific training of the procurement team. It is essential to have a clear concept of mechanical restraint in order to provide optimal care for patients based on evidence.
