GARCIA-MORALES, Elena. What is the role of Emotional Intelligence in clinical, job and educational contexts?. Escritos de Psicología [online]. 2022, vol.15, n.2, pp.148-158. Epub 01-Maio-2023. ISSN 1989-3809. https://dx.doi.org/10.24310/espsiescpsi.v15i2.14752.
Emotional intelligence (EI) has been a widely studied construct in recent decades. Its influence has been studied in the clinical, job and educational fields. The objective of this review is to synthesize the main findings on the implications of EI in these areas to get a clearer idea of the reality of EI. To do this, we analyzed 33 articles on the basis of a detailed and selective search in the Cochrane, Scopus, PsycINFO, Proquest and Google Scholar databases. The results indicate that EI is positively linked to well-being, health, quality of life, job satisfaction, effective leadership and academic performance, mainly, as well as negatively linked to psychopathology and burnout. Mediating variables exist, such as some personality traits (neuroticism) or metacognitive factors (self-efficacy), among others, in many of these relationships. All this clarifies the importance of focusing research on the analysis of the effectiveness of implementation of EI in these contexts, putting theory into practice and exploring the influence of its components.
