Abstract

OLIVARES, C. et al. Impacto de diversas actuaciones en la correcta identificación del paciente en el sistema de gestión del laboratorio. Rev Diagn Biol [online]. 2002, vol.51, n.4, pp.135-139. ISSN 0034-7973.

The mission of the laboratory is to contribute quality information within a suitable time frame. The impact of four actions in the Laboratory Management System (LMS) to improve correct patient identification is evaluated. To indicate the quality of the record of tests requested, the number of records automatically generated by the LMS is used if patient information is insufficient. When the study was started, automatic records represented 31.3% of all lab histories. The crossover with the hospital database dropped to 19.3% and the addition to the host dropped to 13.7%. The inclusion of hematology in the LMS led to a momentary increase to 17.3%. The general use of labels and the involvement of administrative personnel has maintained the number of automatic histories at 7%. The impact of these steps has been an improvement in response time and lab management.

Keywords : Incorrect patient identification; database quality; laboratory management system (LMS).
