In this work, the effectiveness of the Integrated Psychological Therapy (IPT) for the treatment of psychotic patients was studied. The people who took part in this study were outpatients who were being treated in the "DELICIAS" Mental Health Center, located in Valladolid (Spain). All of them were diagnosed with schizophrenia according to ICD-10. The first assessment was carried out on October 15th, 2.002. Experimental and control groups were compared in terms of psychopathology, social skills and cognitive abilities. The experimental group received the psychological treatment, as well as the pharmacological one, during nine months. Meanwhile, the control group received the pharmacological treatment. A follow-up assessment was carried out on June 25th, 2.003. Results showed that important improvements were made in the social functioning and cognitive abilities in the members of the experimental group. Therefore, this study supports the idea that the IPT program is effective in the treatment os psychotic patients.
