CASTIEL, L. D.; SANZ-VALERO, J.  and  RED DE MALNUTRICION EN IBEROAMERICA DEL PROGRAMA DE CIENCIA Y TECNOLOGIA PARA EL DESARROLLO (RED MEL-CYTED). Access to information as a social determinant of health. Nutr. Hosp. [online]. 2010, vol.25, suppl.3, pp.26-30. ISSN 1699-5198.

Technological literacy of human communities is a necessary condition for the development of the so called society of knowledge. But, there is a risk that there is no reduction on the inequality among sectors, zones, regions and countries in relation to the abilities of dealing with information. This lack of equity of access towards scientific knowledge can generate that one part of the world may be able to produce information in a excessive way while the other will have to struggle to its lack of information that follows the digital divide. Communities' access through information and communication technologies to health information may work not only in terms of allowing a growing knowledge. But, more than this, especially in their ability to develop life strategies compatible to healthier practices and able to deal with social determinants in order to improve their health situation.
