Resumen

VILLA-GONZALEZ, Emilio et al. Evaluating of the agreement between two methods to determine the distance of the active commuting to school in schoolchildren. Nutr. Hosp. [online]. 2016, vol.33, n.3, pp.713-718. ISSN 1699-5198.  https://dx.doi.org/10.20960/nh.283.

Objective: To analyze the agreement between two measuring methods (Google MapsTM vs GIS) for the prediction of the distance from home to school. Methods: A total of 542 scholars aged 8-11 years old (mean = 9.36 ± 0.6) from the South of Spain participated in the study, reporting their respective address family home. The distance from home to school was calculated using two different softwares: Google MapsTM and Geographic Information System, in route and straight line. The association between the two methods was analyzed using the Spearman correlation, and the agreement through the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient and the Bland Altman method. Results: The correlation between the two methods of measurement proposed was significant (r = 0.966; p < 0.001; r = 0.984; p < 0.001, and r = 0.954; p < 0.001, respectively), and the agreement was excellent (ICC = 0.96, p < 0.001; ICC = 0.92; p < 0.001, ICC = 0,97; p < 0.001). Conclusions: Both measurement methods may be used depending on the needs of research, introducing both a high agreement. However, the use of Geographic Information System in route is recommended if it is funded, because it was demonstrated its reliability and validity.
