Abstract

SENDROS MADRONO, Mª José. Dietary-therapeutic aspects of cancer patients in special situations: prebiotics and probiotics, do they have a place in the nutritional therapy of cancer patients?. Nutr. Hosp. [online]. 2016, vol.33, suppl.1, pp.17-30. ISSN 1699-5198.

Nutritional care in onco-hematologic patients should be part of the overall treatment of the patient. Disturbances resulting from tumor localization, especially in tumors of the digestive tract, and their treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy and side effects of surgery often prevent oral feeding. This can lead to malnutrition and it is of great importance detection, assessment and intervention. The first step in nutritional intervention is dietary advice. This article shows that aspects should be taken into account in order to develop a dietary advice and the importance of it to be individualized. Four special situations are where nutritional recommendations move to a dietary plan. It also affects the use of probiotics in inmunocompromised patients.
