Our daily practice as plastic surgeons makes us obtain graphic documents where we use simple rulers to compare sizes or lengths. Frequently a photograph shows a precise area (vg. a cutaneous tumour or a flap) but its exact measurement is rarely performed. Additionally, in experimental surgery, it is essential to calculate these data accurately. The objective of the present article is to express the idea, development and validation of an innovative method for surface digital study as well as its use in the plastic surgeon practice.
