Abstract

SARRA, Luis et al. Nasal cavity mucosal melanoma. Rev Esp Cirug Oral y Maxilofac [online]. 2013, vol.35, n.4, pp.167-169. ISSN 2173-9161.  https://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.maxilo.2011.12.002.

Head and neck mucosal melanoma is a rare entity with poor prognosis. This tumour represents less than 1% of malignant melanomas and 0.5% of head and neck malignancies. Melanomas that arise in the nasal cavity present with non-specific symptoms and have a poor prognosis. Wide local excision is the treatment of choice combined with postoperative chemoradiotherapy. We present a case with an unusual survival (4 years) and perform a review of the literature.

Keywords : Melanoma; Mucosal; Nasal cavity; Septum.
