Abstract

ACOSTA BEHRENDS, Carlos  and  LORANCA FRAGOSO, Gabriel. Hyperplasia of the mandibular coronoid process: a new post-surgical treatment. Rev Esp Cirug Oral y Maxilofac [online]. 2015, vol.37, n.2, pp.93-98. ISSN 2173-9161.  https://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.maxilo.2013.11.001.

Mandibular coronoid process hyperplasia is a rare condition, characterized by an enlarged coronoid process, leading to a restriction in mandibular opening due to contact of the coronoid process with the posterior surface of the malar bone. The treatment involves coronoidectomy, gaining free movement of the mandible, and afterwards, active physiotherapy. A novel adjunctive protocol with functional orthopedic device is proposed.

Keywords : Coronoid process hyperplasia; Limited mouth opening; Maxillary functional orthopedics.
