Although embedded in the psychology of aging and the psychological care of old people, the psychotherapy for elder people holds in its own as a substantially clinical environment. Because of their very nature, the therapeutic devices are designed to approach the psychic pain starting from the obvious symptoms. They also give people the opportunity to review the emotional and cognitive foundations of their lives, a peculiar "way of being in the world" that causes the appearance of a psychological symptomatic picture and its persistence or its displacement. The problem with elderly patients is linked to their way of aging and it presents differential characteristics to bear in mind in order to choose effective therapeutic modalities in tune with patient’s condition.
