Abstract

GUIA GALIPIENSO, F. de la; VAZQUEZ PERFECTO, G.  and  PEREZ VILLACASTIN, B.. Essential role of radiological images in the diagnosis of chondrocalcinosis  . Medifam [online]. 2001, vol.11, n.7, pp.61-67. ISSN 1131-5768.

Deposit of dihydrate calcium pyrophosphate crystals on fibrous cartilage and joint hyaline cartilage is called chondrocalcinosis. Because the release of those crystals into the synovial fluid induces an acute arthritis similar to gout arthritis, the clinical syndrome is refered to as pseudogout.  Here we report a case of 38-years old man, caracterized by two years of a strong backache radiating to gluteal and posterior region of the left thigh with diffuse pain affecting several joints, inflammatory signs and joint functional disability. The patient has symptoms for ten days periods, intermittent outbreaks and intercalated non-symptomatic periods.

Keywords : Chondrocalcinosis; Pseudogout; Radiology; Hypomagnesemia.
