Abstract
CARRETERO ARES, J. L.; BOWAKIM DIB, W. and ACEBES REY, J. M.. Multiple sclerosis. Medifam [online]. 2001, vol.11, n.9, pp.30-43. ISSN 1131-5768.
Since more than 100 years Carswell, Cruveilhier and specially Charcot who in 1868 offered the first description about "sclerosis in plaques", until today, multiple sclerosis is a challenge to doctors and investigators who treat it. However, the discovery of new ways of diagnosis as the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the new treatments such as interferon 1a and 1b have provided an important change in pronostic and quality of life in these patients. Family physician must suspect this pathology in those patients with piramidal, sensorial or sensitives disturbances and send them early to reference centers to complete the study and to begin a treatment, as to watch for some of the complications and sequels relationated with this pathology.
