Abstract
MORENO GONZALEZ, A. et al. Prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism in non-surgical patients . Medifam [online]. 2002, vol.12, n.6, pp.11-24. ISSN 1131-5768.
Low-molecular-weight-heparins have shown to be so effective and save than unfractionated heparin in the prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism in medical conditions. The absence of protein binding of the low-molecular-weight-heparins contributes to their excellent bioavailability at low doses and their predictable anticoagulant response when administered in fixed doses. This article review the main risk factors of venous thromboembolism and the different physical and pharmacological methods to prevent them. We also show the last published recommendations for prevention of venous thromboembolism in medical conditions.
