Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder affecting 2 of every 1000 newborns in Spain. Nowadays, cerebral palsy is the most frequent physical disability with or without intellectual/sensory deficit, depending of the brain area affected. Since this disease shows up during the early childhood, it will be identified by the family as causing a strong emotional impact. The way the family faces the situation will determine the childs physical, psychological and social development -and everyone elses life in the family. Cerebral palsy can be one of the reasons for care need. Caregivers must be provided with enough personal and social resources to let them take care of these persons without being absorbed all the time. The recent adoption of the Dependence Act gives an opportunity to the persons affected and their families to meet their needs.
