Abstract

Justification: prenatal education programs are a powerful tool to increase maternal and child health. Today no one knows the most effective educational approach. Objective: To identify differences in approaching and methodology of the major schools of childbirth education. Methods: Review of the databases PubMed, Embase, Lilacs, Scielo and Cochrane since 2000. Review the websites of the schools. Study the documentation using the comparative method. Analysis using a database with Excel. Results: are analyzed and compared the 5 old one schools and 10 of emerging new one schools. Conclusions: The paper explains the conceptual approach and methodology of the schools, which can facilitate the choice for professionals and research design to increase the quality of programs.
