Abstract

ROMERO BALLEN, María Nubia. Health care of abused women in the adversity. Index Enferm [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.1-2, pp.62-66. ISSN 1699-5988.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1132-12962015000100014.

The violence against women has been recognized as a pressing public health issue because it puts at risk their physical and mental health, and has major familiar, social and economical consequences. The welfare concept is transversal to the understanding of the problem generated by gender-based violence, and it is addressed along with the different ways the professional nurse sees the abuse, and the care he or she offers. Here, I present the complexity of addressing the violence against women in the context of health care in the adversity. From the educational strategy of sisterhood that is utilized in the processes of unlearning patriarchal values and behaviors, I show that no woman wants to be abused, humiliated and degraded, and in order to avoid this they are able to stop being denied to become a subject with rights.

Keywords : Gender-based violence; Health care in the adversity; Abused women; Nursing care.
