Introduction: The development of the science depends on two dimensions that interact between the development of ideas, and the social interaction of those who develop them. There are many the researches that analyze the first dimension, but there are limited the studies that approach the second one. In the area of the study of pain these studies are non-existent. Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the Journal of the Spanish Society of Pain (Revista de la Sociedad Española del Dolor), our aim is analyze the relations of the groups of work that appear during this period in the mentioned journal, realizing a quantitative analysis of the authors who sign the works in it published between 1994 and 2003. Material and method: There have been analyzed the review articles, original articles, clinical notes, special collaborations, clinical cases and continued formation articles of the Journal of the Spanish Society of Pain (Revista de la Sociedad Española del Dolor) between 1994 and 2003. A quantitative analysis of the signatories and of the articles in the studied period and of the groups of work and the invisible colleges was realized. Results and conclusions: They are 520 works the included ones in our study, signed by a whole of 1172 authors. The average of signatures for article is 3.5. Analyzing the relations between authors arise 5 invisible colleges that publish in the studied period more than 10 articles. More than 75% of the authors are considered to be transients since only they sign a unique article in the mentioned period. The results are analyzed and discussed.
