RUBINO DIAZ, J. A.; LLADO SALAMANCA, S.; PEREZ GALMES, C. A.  e  SOCIAS MOYA, M.. Perception of health professionals when dealing with pain in the emergency department. Rev. Soc. Esp. Dolor [online]. 2016, vol.23, n.5, pp.229-237. ISSN 1134-8046.

Objective: To evaluate the perception of health professionals on how to assess and address the pain in the emergency department of the University Hospital Espases. Material and methods: The sample consisted of 101 health professionals (41 nurses, 19 doctors, 17 auxiliary nursing technicians, 20 residents of community medicine and four resident specialists) working in the Emergency Department of the University Hospital Espases in Palma de Mallorca. Perception questionnaire pain assessment in the Emergency Department consists of 10 questions, which were formulated aiming at the use of a pain assessment scale, to record the level of pain of patients before and after analgesia was used and if the treatment was carried out at its best. Results and conclusions: The professionals who answered the questionnaire were 65.08 % of nurses, 32.07 % of auxiliary nursing technicians, 63.33 % of physicians, 22.72 % of residents of community medicine residents and 20 % of specialists. The answers to the questions were generally not extreme responses like never or always, but stood around almost always or sometimes in relation to the assessment, use of scale, pain log, administered treatment and reassessment of the same, with percentage responses about 40 % of participants. Those answers as always or never, which gave some professionals, in relation to the re-evaluation of pain by community medicine residents (70 %) and the raid conducted by the TCAE (72.20 %) were due to the fact that they did not do it systematically because it did not belong to them. These results disclose the perception of health professionals in relation to addressing pain in the emergency room, so it will establish protocols and best practices in improving the assessment and treatment of pain.
