Abstract
NIETO BLANCO, Esther and SALVADOR-MORAN, Mª Jesús. Nurses as support in old people's homes: An evaluation of the experience introduced. Gerokomos [online]. 2008, vol.19, n.1, pp.21-27. ISSN 1134-928X.
In the area of Madrid and its surroundings "Comunidad de Madrid", there are 31.084 old people set up in Old people's homes, 30 per cent are in Area 6, in the 170 homes which can be found in the area. This concentration of geriatric centres, especially in two of its main areas, is mainly due to the urbanistic expansion registered in this part of Madrid in the last few years. The progressive growth of these sanitary and social services, means more organization in Health Centres, which is a challenge for the medical teams managements of the area. Some of the problems expressed by professionals and sometimes lived as a threat have been: overwork, the disagreement between the professionals in de homes and those of the medical team, the great demand of services and the feeling that the situation is out of control. For further knowledge of some of these problems and finding solutions, research work has been done by Head Nurses (from 1999 to 2000). After knowing the results, several actions were planned, one of them was the creation of a Care Support have nurse services located in the Aravaca Health Centre (Madrid). Following we present the evaluation of this experience.
