Abstract

Objetive:

Improving the nutritional status of the institutionalized patient and evaluate the intervention of adequate nutritional support.

Methodology:

A quasi experimental study with pre-post design in a unique group of residents in the Residencia San Llorenç of Vila-real (Castellón). Using to determine the nutritional status of the resident the Mini Nutritional Assessment II scale and and the analytical and anthropometric parameters measured before and after the application of the practical guideline.

Results:

In the present study confirmed that different risk factors exist for the malnutrition in the elderly and it can be treated early and effectively if it takes place a good nutritional assessment detecting this risk factors.

Conclusions:

We can say that oral nutritional supplements are the best measure front malnutrition since analytical and anthropometric parameters improve favorably, therefore, it’s a justified and effective measure.
