Abstract

CASTELLO PONCE, A.; ALVAREZ SEGUI, M.; NEGRE MUNOZ, M.C.  and  VERDU PASCUAL, F.A.. Development of latent lip prints with fluorescent powders. Cuad. med. forense [online]. 2003, n.34, pp.43-47. ISSN 1988-611X.

The search for latent prints is very difficult when they are placed on porous surfaces (i.e. on paper). The difficulty is even greater when the prints are old. To detect them it is necessary to use very sensitive reagents that will produce coloured products that we can detect. Lip prints contains lipids which make possible their development by using lysochrome dyes (Sudan III, Oil Red O and Sudan Black ). Nonetheless, when the print is on dark or multicoloured surfaces, development could not be seen at all. This problem could be solved using fluorescent reagents. These reagents are being used for fingerprint development. The results of this work show that fluorescent powders for latent fingerprints are useful for the development of latent lip prints on porous surfaces or on multicoloured ones.
